Victoria’s Chinatown is the oldest in Canada and a National Historic Sight of Canada. But did you know it is currently experiencing a renaissance for amazing modern food? Let us take you to our favorite local haunts that are serving up delicious modern cuisine in this beautiful old neighbourhood.

We start the tour at the historic Hudson Bay Building. Completed in 1922, this iconic building is now the home of the bustling Victoria Public Market. Here we will get a tour of the market that includes a coffee from a local roaster, a savoury hand pie from Victoria Pie Co. and a traditional arancini from La Pasta. We then make our way to historic Chinatown where we visit the Chinese Public School and explore the vibrant culinary scene along colourful Fisgard Street.

After passing under the Gates of Harmonious Interest we stop at Wai Lai Yeun for a traditional baked Char Sui bun. A savory pork bun with a hint of sweetness baked fresh everyday. We then visit Maiiz Nixtamal where chef Israel makes his handmade tortillas using local BC corn. Crossing through Fan Tan Alley, we then head to historic and beautiful Market Square. Here we will try some local craft beer from Whistle Buoy Brewery, one of Victoria’s best local breweries. After sipping some beers (or locally made sodas) we head to a new Japanese snack shop called Oni Oni to sample some tasty Onigiri. We end the tour back on Fisgard at La Roux Patisserie for an authentic French pastry.
